BREMNER D.H., MAGILL WJ. DEIGHTON N.& BENSON E.E. 1997. An evaluation of analytical methods for the detection of secondary oxidation products in dedifferentiated plant cultures.-Phyton (Horn, Austria) 37 (3): (39) (44). A range of techniques have been employed to detect and examine aldehydic products of lipid peroxidation in D. carota cultures. Emphasis is placed on the use of HPLC and LC-MS techniques to aid the identification and profiling of aldehydic dinitrophenyl hydrazone (DNPH)derivatives in dedifferentiated callus tissues. Using these approaches, malondialdehyde (MDA) and 4-hydroxynonenal (HNE) have been identified in cultures of D. carota. Using LC-MS, it was found that embryogenic cultures have high levels of HNE and lower levels of MDA compared to nonembryogenic cultures. Future studies will evaluate the role of these lipid peroxidation products in in vitro morphogenesis.

Essential Oils from Hairy Root Cultures and Field Cultivated Roots of Valerian (Valeriana sisymbriifolium)

Background: Plant cell cultivations are considered as an alternative to agricultural processes for producing valuable phytochemicals (secondary metabolites). The use of plant cell cultures has overcome several inconveniences for the production of secondary metabolites. Objective: The essential oils isolated from roots of 24-month-old field grown valerian (Valeriana sisymbriifolium) and hairy r...

Secondary Metabolite Contents and Antioxidant Enzyme Activities of Cichorium intybus Hairy Roots in Response to Zinc

Hairy root systems are formed by transforming plant tissues with the “natural genetic engineer” Agrobacterium rhizogenes. In most plants such as Cichorium intybus L., hairy root cultures have proven to be an efficient system for secondary metabolites production. The effect of Zinc (ZnSO4), a heavy metal, was investigated at different concentrations (0, 1, 5 and 10 mM) on some secondary metaboli...

Using elicitors for enhanced production of secondary metabolites in plant cell and organ suspension cultures

In biotechnology has been concentrated to review alternative routes for the production of natural compounds. Plant cell culture systems are viable alternatives for the production of secondary metabolites that are of commercial importance in food and pharmaceutical industries. However, relatively very few cultures synthesize these compounds over extended periods in amounts comparable to those fo...

Sensitive Electrochemical Determination of Gallic Acid: Application in Estimation of Total Polyphenols in Plant Samples

A modified electrode was prepared by modification of the carbon paste electrode (CPE) with graphene nano-sheets. The fabricated modified electrode exhibited an electrocatalytic activity toward gallic acid (GA) oxidation because of good conductivity, low electron transfer resistance and catalytic effect. The graphene modified CPE had a lower overvoltage and enhanced electrical current respect to...

Nanobiosensors-their Applications in the Medicinal Plants Industry

For centuries, herbal drugs have been the only accessible resource for treatment of pain and passions. Today, despite remarkable progress and development of synthetic drugs, medicinal plants and their derived drugs are used massively. So that, in some countries medicinal plants is inseparable from drugs and treatment systems. More ever, their marketing and economical aspects are more flourishin...
